BitTorrent, one of the most popular Peer to Peer file sharing platforms with ten million users, has announced to pay Tron as an incentive for the seeders as a part of Project Atlas.
The founder of Tron cryptocurrency, Justin Sun, acquired BitTorrent now renamed to Rainberry for an undisclosed amount of money in June 2018. However, during this time, the true intention of the Tron foundation was not clear. Currently, Tron(Trx) ranks among the 13th most valuable cryptocurrency with a market cap of USD 2.9 billion.
According to the press release, Tron along with its token will be integrated directly into BitTorrent to create a TRX driven content-sharing ecosystem. This project is termed as Project Atlas which features faster downloads, more seeds, no mining and backward compatibility.
Project Atlas is a very essential project within Tron’s Roadmap, where Blockchain is implemented for BitTorrent’s architecture. This innovation is supposed to transform the content distribution industry with the motive of decentralizing the web. The CEO of Tron, Justin Sun states:
“Project Atlas is the foundation for a new way of content distribution. To start, the product will feature faster downloads, more seeds, no mining, and backward compatibility. It is adapted to the world we live in today: mobile, connected, and transparent. We aim to eventually empower all content creators and their communities by eliminating the middleman and enabling content creators to distribute directly to users”.
This new update is supposed to address all kinds of users. It supports old clients which do not have access to the TRX network and those who don't check for the updates. Nevertheless, it is really exciting to see users gain crypto just by seeding, so the number of the users is expected to increase.
Since blockchain based file-sharing platforms already exist, do you think BitTorrent will be able to offer their own unique utility and BitTorrent users count will increase in the days to come? Do share your views in the comment section.
